Mediation and Arbitration Centre

The aim and objectives of a Mediation and Arbitration Centre at SOLJ are as follows:

  • To provide an alternative mechanism for resolving disputes outside of the court system, through mediation and arbitration.
  • To educate law students and train them in the skills necessary to act as mediators and arbitrators.
  • To provide a neutral and impartial forum for parties to resolve disputes in a timely, cost-effective, and efficient manner.
  • To promote the use of mediation and arbitration as a means of resolving disputes, particularly in cases where court proceedings may not be necessary or appropriate.
  • To encourage parties to work together to find mutually acceptable solutions to their disputes
  • To reduce the burden on the court system by providing an alternative means of dispute resolution.
  • To provide access to justice to parties who may not be able to afford the costs of litigation.
